Test it before a real interview
Check with a friend that your answer window stays out of your screen share before a real interview.
Help Center / Screen share privacy
Check with a friend that your answer window stays out of your screen share before a real interview.
Screen Share Privacy keeps the desktop app’s answer window on your own display. It is not part of the screen you share. But every computer and meeting app is different. So test it before a real interview.
What you need
- The desktop app on Windows or macOS. See the download page.
- The meeting app you will use in the interview, like Zoom, Google Meet, or Microsoft Teams.
- A friend on another device, or a second device of your own.
Steps
- Open the meeting app and start a test call with your friend.
- Open InterviewStorm and start a session. Put the answer window where you want it.
- In the meeting app, share your screen. Share the same way you will in the interview (whole screen or one window).
- Ask your friend what they see.
- Your friend should see your screen without the answer window.
- Press Play and ask your friend to say a question. Check that the app hears it and shows an answer.
- Stop sharing and end the call.
If your friend can see the window
- Zoom on macOS: Zoom versions newer than 6.1.5, on macOS versions older than 26, do not work with this feature. The app warns you about this. Use Zoom 6.1.5 or earlier, then test again.
- Remote desktop tools, capture cards, or cameras: these see your whole screen. Screen Share Privacy does not change that.
- Wrong app: make sure you are using the desktop app. The web app and phone app do not have this feature.
Test the sound too
While you test, check that the app hears your friend. On macOS this needs macOS 13 or later and the Screen Recording permission. See Let the app hear the interviewer.
Test again after changes
Test again if you:
- update your meeting app,
- update your computer’s operating system (the main system, like Windows or macOS),
- use a new computer or a new screen.
