Wipro Interview Process: Online Test, Technical, and HR Rounds

Wipro is one of the large IT services companies that hire freshers every year, along with TCS, Infosys, and Accenture. Its process is shorter than many people expect: one online assessment, then an interview that mixes technical and HR questions.
Short does not mean easy. The online test filters out most applicants, and the interview goes straight to your projects. This guide explains how the Wipro process usually works and how to prepare for each part.
Names, test patterns, and dates change between drives. The official notice on the Wipro careers site and the emails you get after registering are the final word.
Wipro fresher programs
Wipro’s early careers page lists several ways in for new graduates. The main ones for engineers are:
- Elite: Wipro’s technical graduate hiring program for new engineering graduates from across India. This is the route most freshers take, through campus or off-campus drives.
- Turbo: a technical hiring program for top engineering talent from a set list of premier institutes, such as IIITs, NITs, and selected private colleges.
- Wipro Integrated Learning Program (WILP): for BCA and B.Sc graduates. You work full time at Wipro while studying for a sponsored M.Tech degree.
The steps below focus on Elite, since it is the most common route.
The Wipro process at a glance
Most Elite candidates go through these steps:
- Register for the drive through your college or the off-campus link in the official notice.
- Online assessment: aptitude, a written English essay, and coding.
- Technical interview: your projects and computer science basics. Some candidates call this the “business discussion” round.
- HR interview: sometimes a separate round, sometimes part of the same conversation.
- Offer and onboarding.
Step 1: Online assessment (prep only)
Prep sites that track recent Elite drives describe one sitting with three parts:
- Aptitude: quantitative ability, logical reasoning, and verbal ability.
- Written communication: a short essay on a given topic. Past topics have included technology and social issues, like AI and jobs or social media.
- Coding: usually two problems, solved in a language such as C, C++, Java, or Python.
Reports put the total at about two hours, with some drives using a shorter version. Check the exact pattern in your invite.
The assessment is proctored, which means it is monitored through your webcam and browser. Recent drives ran it remotely on the AMCAT platform. Do not use any AI tool, phone, or outside help during the test. It can get you disqualified, and the interview will test the same skills anyway.
How to prepare for the online assessment
- Aptitude: practice percentages, time and work, profit and loss, number series, and syllogisms with a timer.
- Essay: write a few practice essays of about 200 to 300 words. Use a simple structure: one opening line, two or three points with examples, and a short conclusion. Check spelling and grammar.
- Coding: practice array, string, and basic math problems. Make sure your code handles edge cases like an empty input or a single element.
- Mock tests: take at least two full mocks in one sitting to build stamina.
- System check: test your webcam, microphone, and browser before the test day.
Step 2: Technical interview
Candidate reports describe this round as mostly about your resume. Interviewers pick your project and ask you to explain it, then move to core subjects. Some open with a few easy personal questions to help you relax.
Expect questions on:
- Your project: what problem it solves, the tech stack, your exact part, and the hardest bug you fixed.
- Programming basics: the languages on your resume, with small programs to write or explain.
- OOP: the four pillars, with examples.
- DBMS and SQL: keys, joins, and normalization.
- Basic web or cloud topics if your resume mentions them.
The level is usually fundamentals, not hard puzzles. What fails people is weak knowledge of their own project. If a teammate built most of it, learn every part before the interview.
Step 3: HR interview
The HR round checks communication, attitude, and practical fit. In some drives it is folded into the technical interview.
Common Wipro HR questions:
- Tell me about yourself.
- Why do you want to join Wipro?
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
- Are you willing to relocate anywhere in India?
- Are you comfortable with night shifts or rotational shifts?
- Where do you see yourself in five years?
- Do you have any questions for us?
Answer honestly about relocation and shifts. Saying yes and then refusing later causes more trouble than a clear answer now. See our full list of HR interview questions for freshers for sample answers, and our guide to tell me about yourself for the opening question.
Experienced (lateral) hiring at Wipro
For experienced roles, you apply for a specific job on the careers site, through a referral, or through a job portal. The usual flow is:
- Recruiter screening: skills, current project, notice period, current CTC (cost to company, your total yearly pay), and expected CTC.
- One or two technical rounds on your main skill, often with scenario questions from real project work.
- Managerial or client round for some roles, especially client-facing ones.
- HR round: final salary discussion, joining date, and documents.
Prepare to explain your current project end to end. Use the STAR method for questions like “Tell me about a production issue you handled.” For senior roles, our system design framework helps you structure design questions.
Common Wipro technical questions
Prepare short answers to these:
- Explain your final-year project and your role in it.
- What is the difference between C and Java?
- What is inheritance? What types does Java support?
- What is the difference between a primary key and a unique key?
- Write a SQL query to get the employees who earn more than the average salary.
- What is the difference between a stack and a queue?
- Write a program to swap two numbers without a third variable.
- What is cloud computing? Name a few cloud services.
Tips that help in every round
- Know your resume deeply. The Wipro interview is built around it.
- Speak in simple, complete sentences. Communication matters in both the essay and the interview.
- Keep answers short. One to two minutes for most answers, then stop and let the interviewer ask more.
- Have documents ready: mark sheets, ID proof, and your registration details.
- Prepare your setup for a video interview. Our video interview setup guide covers camera, audio, and internet.
Where InterviewStorm fits
InterviewStorm is a real-time AI interview assistant. It hears the question, shows it as live text, and suggests a short answer built from your resume and the job post.
Use it to practice before a Wipro interview. Ask a friend to run a practice call on Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or Google Meet and ask the questions above. You will see how to explain your project clearly, then you can practice saying it in your own words. You can also use it in live interviews where AI help is allowed.
Unlimited is $30, a one-time payment for a month of unlimited use, with no subscription. For the local price and payment options in India, email support@interviewstorm.com. See the InterviewStorm India page, or try a free 20-minute trial.
Use it the right way: never use AI help during the Wipro online assessment or any other proctored online test, or in any interview where the employer does not allow it. Check the rules of each round and follow them.
