Infosys hires freshers through campus drives, off-campus drives, and coding contests, and it hires experienced people for specific roles all year. The steps are simple on paper: an online test, a technical interview, and an HR interview. The details are where people slip.
This guide explains how the Infosys process usually works, what each round checks, the questions that come up most, and how to prepare.
Infosys changes its test pattern and roles from year to year. Treat the official invite email and the Infosys careers site as the final word for your drive.
The Infosys process at a glance
For freshers, most candidates go through these steps:
- Apply. Through your college placement cell, an off-campus drive, or a coding contest like HackWithInfy.
- Online assessment. An aptitude and reasoning test, with coding or pseudocode sections for technical roles.
- Technical interview. Your projects, programming basics, and core computer science subjects.
- HR interview. Communication, attitude, and practical questions like relocation.
- Offer and onboarding. Document checks and a joining date.
Infosys hires freshers into different roles. Prep sites commonly list Systems Engineer (SE) as the main role, with higher roles such as Digital Specialist Engineer (DSE) and Specialist Programmer (SP) for candidates who do well in coding. Your test performance usually decides which role you are considered for.
Step 1: Online assessment (prep only)
The online test is the biggest filter. Prep sites that track recent drives report sections like these:
- Quantitative or mathematical ability: arithmetic, percentages, probability, and number problems.
- Logical and analytical reasoning: arrangements, puzzles, syllogisms, and data interpretation.
- Verbal ability: reading comprehension, grammar, and sentence completion.
- Pseudocode: reading a short piece of code and working out what it prints.
- Coding: for SP and DSE roles, longer programming problems.
Recent reports describe sectional time limits, so you cannot borrow time from one section for another. The number of questions and minutes change between drives.
The test is usually taken remotely and is proctored. That means it is monitored, often through your webcam and browser. Candidates typically get a login link and a one-time password by email and must log in on time. Do not use any AI tool, second device, or outside help during the test. It can get you disqualified, and it would not help you in the interview that follows anyway.
How to prepare for the online test
- Practice reasoning daily. Analytical reasoning is often the section people find hardest. Solve puzzles with a timer.
- Strengthen verbal skills. Read an English newspaper or article every day and practice grammar questions.
- Learn to trace code. For pseudocode questions, practice loops, recursion, and bit operations on paper.
- Take full timed mocks. Sectional timers punish slow starts. Train yourself to move on when stuck.
- Check your laptop setup. Webcam, browser version, and internet, a day before the test.
Step 2: Technical interview
The technical round checks your fundamentals and your projects. It is usually a conversation, not a hard coding contest, but it can go deep on anything you put on your resume.
Expect questions on:
- Your project: the problem it solves, the technology, your role, and what you would do differently.
- Programming basics: the language on your resume. Simple programs like Fibonacci, factorial, or reversing a number.
- OOP: class and object, inheritance, overloading versus overriding, and abstraction.
- DBMS and SQL: primary and foreign keys, joins, normalization, and simple queries.
- Data structures: arrays, linked lists, stacks, queues, and when to use each.
For SP and DSE interviews, expect harder coding, data structures and algorithms, and questions on time and space complexity. Our coding interview preparation plan helps with this.
Step 3: HR interview
The HR round checks how you communicate and whether you fit the job. Interviewers look for clear speech, a positive attitude, and honest answers.
Common Infosys HR questions:
- Tell me about yourself.
- Why do you want to join Infosys?
- Why should we hire you?
- What are your strengths and weaknesses?
- Are you willing to relocate? Infosys runs its Foundation Program for new graduates at its Global Education Center in Mysuru, so many freshers start their job away from home.
- Are you comfortable working in shifts?
- Where do you see yourself in five years?
For full sample answers, see our list of HR interview questions for freshers. For the weakness question, our greatest weakness guide shows how to answer without hurting yourself.
Experienced (lateral) hiring at Infosys
For experienced roles, the process depends on the team and the level. Candidate reports usually describe:
- Recruiter or HR screening: current role, notice period, current CTC (cost to company, your total yearly pay), and expected CTC.
- Technical rounds: one or two rounds on your main skill and your current project. Infosys has been reported to add technical tests for lateral roles too, so some roles start with an online assessment.
- Managerial round: scenario questions on deadlines, escalations, and team work.
- HR round: final salary discussion and joining date.
Be ready to explain your current project in detail: the architecture, your exact part, and a real problem you solved. Use the STAR method for scenario questions.
Common Infosys technical questions
Prepare short, clear answers to these:
- What is the difference between method overloading and method overriding?
- What is a constructor? Can a constructor be private?
- What is the difference between an array and a linked list?
- Explain the difference between DELETE, TRUNCATE, and DROP in SQL.
- What is an inner join versus a left join?
- What is a stack overflow?
- Write a program to find the largest element in an array.
- Explain your final-year project in two minutes.
Tips that help in every round
- Practice speaking, not only reading. Explain a concept out loud in under a minute. It is harder than it sounds.
- Keep your resume honest and short. Every line is a possible question.
- Know a little about Infosys. Its main services and one recent news item are enough to answer “Why Infosys?” well.
- Be on time for every slot. Late logins can cost you the round.
- Set up your video call properly. Our video interview setup guide covers the basics.
Where InterviewStorm fits
InterviewStorm is a real-time AI interview assistant. It hears each question, shows it as live text, and suggests a short answer built from your resume and the job post.
The best use before an Infosys interview is practice. Ask a friend to run a practice call on Microsoft Teams, Zoom, or Google Meet with the questions above. You will see how a clear answer from your own projects sounds, and then you can say it in your own words. You can also use it in live interviews where AI help is allowed.
Unlimited is $30, a one-time payment for a month of unlimited use, with no subscription. For the local price and payment options in India, email support@interviewstorm.com. See the InterviewStorm India page, or try a free 20-minute trial.
Use it the right way: never use AI help during the Infosys online test or any other proctored online test, or in any interview where the employer does not allow it. Check the rules of each round and follow them.
