Fix problems when InterviewStorm hears you but not the interviewer, step by step.

The app needs device audio (the sound coming out of your computer, like the interviewer’s voice) to hear the call. Find your case below.

Web app: you cancelled the share

When you press Play, the browser asks what to share. If you close that window, the app gets no sound. Press Play again and choose a screen or tab.

Web app: you shared without audio

  1. Stop and start listening again.
  2. In the share window, choose “Entire Screen”.
  3. Turn on “Share with system audio”.
  4. Click “Share”.

You must do this at the start of every interview. The browser cannot remember it.

Web app: “no longer active”

You clicked Chrome’s “Stop sharing” button. This also stops the sound. Start listening again and share again.

Web app: not supported in this browser

Safari and Firefox usually cannot share device audio. Use Chrome or Edge on a computer, or the desktop app from the download page.

Desktop app on macOS

  • Screen Recording permission: macOS needs it to let the app hear the call. Open System Settings, allow InterviewStorm under Screen Recording, then restart the app.
  • macOS version: hearing the call needs macOS 13 or later. On macOS 12 the app opens, but it cannot hear the call.

Could not start

Another app that shares your screen may be in the way. Close other screen-sharing apps and try again.

Phone app

Phones can only use the microphone. So:

  • Do not use headphones.
  • Take the call on another device, like your laptop, so the phone can hear it through the speaker.

Check the “Access” badge

If an “Access” badge shows on the Helper screen, click it. It tells you which sound source needs attention.
