Some interview questions need a planned answer, not a quick fact. InterviewStorm handles two common kinds.

System design questions

A system design question asks you to plan a large software system. For example: “Design a chat app.”

With “Answer Length” set to Medium, the answer can cover:

  • Requirements (what the system must do)
  • Capacity estimates (rough numbers for users and data)
  • Architecture diagrams (drawings of the main parts and how they connect)
  • Request flows (the path a request takes through the system)
  • Schema (how the data is organized)
  • APIs (the ways parts of the system talk to each other)
  • Scaling and caching (how it handles more users and stays fast)
  • Tradeoffs (what you gain and what you give up with each choice)

With “Answer Length” set to Short, you get only the key components.

Diagrams are drawn in the answer. You can open a diagram full screen to see it better.

Behavioral questions

A behavioral question asks about your past. For example: “Tell me about a time you solved a conflict.” The answer is a short story from your resume.

The app builds the story with an answer structure. Choose one in “Answer Structure”:

  • STAR (default): Situation, Task, Action, Result.
  • CAR: Challenge, Action, Result.
  • SOAR: Situation, Obstacle, Action, Result.
  • PAR: Problem, Action, Result.
  • SOARA: Situation, Objective, Action, Result, Aftermath.

Make stories sound like you

  • Add real projects and results to your profile. See Set up your resume.
  • Choose “Conversational” in “Response Format” if you want answers that read like speech.
  • Use “Custom Instructions” for your own wishes. For example: “Add filler words to sound natural”.

All of these settings are explained in Change how answers look and sound.

Tip

Turn on “Think” for hard design questions. It uses a slower AI that reasons more. The answer takes longer but can be more careful.

Follow each employer’s interview rules. Do not use InterviewStorm in proctored tests, exams, or anywhere AI help is not allowed.
